Star Wars: KOTOR – 8 Awesome Side Quests You Shouldn't Miss (2024)

Despite its significant age, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is an easy game to revisit again and again. With its release on the Nintendo Switch this week, now has never been a better time to hitch a ride on the Ebon Hawk one more time.

The main questline of Star Wars: KOTOR is just as grand as any movie. Players, however, especially new ones, shouldn't cheat themselves by ignoring the game's stellar collection of side quests. Regardless of whether players choose to follow the path of light or slip into darkness, these memorable side quests certainly deserve some attention.

8 Zax's Bounty Hunter Quests

The first planet players get to explore in KOTOR is the metropolis of Taris. While exploring the planet's seedier Lower City, be sure to pay a visit to Javyar's Cantina. In one of the backrooms, players will spot an unmissable Hutt by the name of Zax.

Zax offers a series of bounty hunting contracts for those in need of some extra Credits. Some targets are unambiguously bad people. The interesting thing about this quest, however, is that a few of the contract targets fall into a morally gray area. It's up to players to decide whether to ruthlessly execute these people or help them out of their jams, sometimes through creative means.

7 The Promised Land

If fans think the Lower City is a dump, the Undercity proves to be far worse. A community of downtrodden outcasts makes their home here, eking out a pitiful existence while contending with disease and savage predators. The village elder, Rukil, believes that a hidden "Promised Land" exists that, once found, will be the community's salvation.

Players can agree to retrieve a collection of journals whose contents contain the secret to finding the Promised Land. With this side quest, players have a perfect opportunity to display their goodness or wanton cruelty. The journals can be returned to Rukil, thereby rescuing the community from their miserable existence, or destroyed for a rather pitiful monetary reward.

6 Missing Companion

Although Dantooine may look peaceful from a distance, there's still plenty of danger and intrigue that requires the player's attention. After receiving some crash-course Jedi training, the courtyard of the Jedi Temple becomes accessible. Outside, after crossing a small bridge, players can meet Elise.

Elise is very distraught, to say the least. Her companion, who is obviously very special, has left her. Without spoiling too much, the identity of Elise's companion turns out to be quite unusual. Players, unsurprisingly, will have to make an interesting moral decision after locating Elise's companion.

5 Murdered Settler

Arguably the most interesting side quest on Dantooine can be found once players start exploring the Grove area. Fans will stumble upon a crime scene, where it's explained that a Dantooine settler has been murdered. Two individuals are suspected of committing the crime. Naturally, it's up to the player to identify the culprit.

Although the quest doesn't represent anything too complex, it does offer a refreshing change of pace. Players interview each suspect, listening carefully to their stories while keeping an ear open for inconsistencies. Look for a Jedi named Bolook in the Grove area to start this side quest.

4 Sunry Murder Trial

If players found the previous entry intriguing, then the "Sunry Murder Trial" side quest on Manaan is recommended. Once again, players will have to put their keen investigative skills to good use. When an old friend of Jolee Bindo's, a man named Sunry, is accused of murdering a Sith woman, it's up to the protagonist to learn the truth.

Fans not only have to play the role of a detective but of a lawyer as well. Players need to use everything they learned during the investigation to make a compelling argument during the trial. It's a pretty unique adventure, one that definitely shouldn't be missed.

3 The Hermit In The Hills

On Korriban, the player character is tasked with impressing the headmaster of the Sith Academy enough to gain access to the next Star Map. There are a variety of methods to gain this "prestige," one of which involves tangling with a crazed Sith Master.

While exploring the Tomb of Tulak Hord, players will be knocked unconscious by Jorak Uln, a man who's clearly off his rocker. Uln will test the player's knowledge of Sith teachings through a series of hypothetical questions. However, as players will discover, the stakes of the game turn out to be quite high.

2 The Sword Of Ajunta Pall

It's no secret that the tombs of Korriban contain all manner of valuable treasure. Exploring the Tomb of Ajunta Pall yields a nifty sword as a reward......assuming players survive the dangers within, that is. One final surprise awaits once Ajunta Pall's sarcophagus is breached.

Ajunta Pall will materialize as a ghost and relate to the player character his tragic fall from grace. Based on clues that Ajunta Pall gives them, fans can identify the Sith Lord's true sword out of three possible choices. Guessing correctly nets the player an exceedingly valuable ancient artifact.

1 Genoharadan Contracts

For dark side players, the Genoharadan assassination missions are a must-see. Fans can embark on their career as an assassin by speaking to a Rodian named Hulas in the East Central courtyard. Players must meet the Rodian alone. Otherwise, Hulas will be very tight-lipped.

The assassination contracts that Hulas gives to the player are a fun distraction. Targets can be dispatched in several ways, including ones that make the deed look like an accident. Honorable Jedi may not want to get their hands dirty engaging in such cloak-and-dagger activities.
